Dental Implants
Put simply, dental implants are merely metal posts with a false tooth(or teeth) on top. They are embedded into the patient’s jawbone creating a strong, long-lasting replacement for missing teeth. An individual crown, bridge or denture may be cemented to the portion of the dental implant post which rises above the gum line. Implant-supported restorations are more stable and user-friendly than other teeth replacement options.
With implant dentistry, patients who are missing one, two or several teeth no longer have to accept a lifetime of embarrassment and inconvenience. Implant-supported crowns, bridges and dentures provide the security and usability of permanently placed teeth. Indeed, dental implants replace missing teeth with ones that look, feel and perform like their own.
If you’re missing one or more teeth and would like to smile, speak and eat again with comfort and confidence, then dental implants can be the answer. Our Conejo Valley area implant dentists have been helping reshape smiles for many years. To learn more about implant dentistry, contact us today.

Thousand Oaks Dental Implants
Dental implants are a prosthetic option for tooth replacement, allowing for stable attachment of artificial teeth. This term refers to the implant itself, which is a kind of anchor, and the crown, which serves as a replacement tooth. In combination, you end up with an effective solution to a missing tooth, or multiple teeth.
Implants are used as a permanent replacement for missing teeth. Westlake Village Dentists offer the highest quality dental implants in Thousand Oaks, CA, and we are more than happy to help you through this process.
Benefits of Dental Implants in Thousand Oaks
Dental implants are becoming more and more popular because they are an easy, effective method for artificial teeth. Here are some reasons to consider implants if you’re in need of a solution for missing teeth:
- No adhesives: Unlike dentures, implants are actually attached to your jaw like natural teeth, which means you’ll never have to worry about removing and applying adhesives again. This makes for an easier dental health experience on a daily basis.
- Easier care: Implants will function like natural teeth which allow for simple, effective care that you probably already feel comfortable with. Your dentist can help you through the process to ensure that you know how to keep your implants healthy, which is a simple process compared to alternative teeth replacement options.
- Better functionality: As we mentioned previously, dental implants help artificial teeth perform more like natural teeth than some of your other options. This means you’ll be able to speak and eat with ease, and you won’t have to make a difficult transition for this process.
- Natural looking: Whether you’re getting just one implant or several, this process allows for great looking teeth to fill that beautiful smile of yours. We take pride in giving every client confidence in their smile with excellent looking tooth replacement implants!
Whether you have one or many teeth where implants are a possibility, we can help. Dental implants are an effective option to keep your dental health stable and functional. Because this option is so much easier to care for, you’ll be able to better keep up with your oral health over the years to come.

Financing
Westlake Village Dentists, Dental Implants Cost, Financing and Payment Options.
The cost of dental implants varies depending on a number of factors, including the number of missing teeth and the type of replacement teeth used. The out of pocket expense for dental implants ranges from $1,000 and up, depending on whether you have insurance benefits and other factors.
Payment Options
Prior to treatment, the doctor will review your treatment options with you, and a financial coordinator will review the fees and various payment options with you, including financing if requested.
The cost difference of replacing a single missing tooth with a three-unit bridge or a dental implant and crown is almost identical. However, dental implants are more natural looking, never decay, preserve your bone, and generally last significantly longer than a bridge.
Dental Implants- a Lifetime Investment
An investment in dental implants is an investment in your overall health, your appearance and your peace of mind. It is a permanent replacement option that helps preserve your facial structure and your remaining teeth.
Loss of teeth in adults is very common, and is often not due to neglect. Often times trauma, a failed root canal or just years of use can cause the loss of a tooth. The results can impact your appearance, self-confidence, ability to chew and your overall health. An investment in dental implants restores your confidence and ability to chew comfortably, because they look and feel like natural teeth.

FAQs
Below are some of the most frequently asked questions patients have about dentistry and oral health issues. If you have any other questions, or would like to schedule an appointment, we would love to hear from you.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots used to replace a missing tooth or teeth.
What are dental implants made of?
Dental implants are composed of titanium, which is a very biocompatible material with the human body. Titanium is routinely used for other medical procedures such as knee replacements. After a period of healing of up to six months, a restoration is placed over the titanium implant(s). Depending on the goals and needs of the patient, the restoration can be a dental crown, bridges or implant-supported dentures. At our office, you can rest assured that we use only the finest and most esthetic materials available.
Are dental implants safe?
Dental implants are a safe! Implants have been used successfully for decades in patients with missing teeth.
Do dental implants work?
Dental implants are among the most predictable tooth replacement options. While there is no guarantee that an implant procedure will be successful, studies have shown a five-year success rate of 95 percent for lower jaw implants, and a 90 percent success rate for upper jaw implants.
How much do dental implants cost?
The cost of dental implants depends on many factors, such as the type of implant procedure, the location where the dental implant procedure is performed, the type of dental insurance you have, and the type of dental implant your dentist places. Single dental implants may range in cost from $1,000 to $4,000.
Will my insurance cover the surgery?
Occasionally insurance will cover dental implant surgery, but not always. The only way to find out for sure what your insurance will cover is for us to call them. While many insurance companies will not pay for the surgical placement of the implants, many will have restoration benefits. Our staff will make to find out your specific insurance benefits and then discuss your options with you.
How are dental implants placed?
Dental implants are placed into the jawbone after the dentist drills a small hole into the site where the tooth is missing. This hole is slowly widened to accommodate the dental implant screw. Once the implant is placed, the gum tissue is replaced over the implant and a protective cover screw is placed on top for healing. After up to six months of healing, the dentist uncovers the implant and attaches an abutment, which holds the crown or tooth-like replacement to the implant.
How long is the surgery?
The length of the surgery is dependent on the number of implants being placed and whether there are any complicating factors. A single routine implant can be done in as little as 30 minutes.
Is the dental implant procedure painful?
No. Typically either a local anesthetic alone, or in combination with sedation dentistry, if necessary, is used during implant placement, so patients do not feel any pain during the procedure. Typically after the initial surgery the discomfort is very minimal for a day or two. However, in more complicated procedures, or for patients with a lower pain threshold, a prescription pain medications may be prescribed to relieve any post-surgical pain or discomfort.
When can I return to work after the dental implant surgery?
Though each person is different and tolerates treatment differently, most people having routine, non-complicated implant placement return to work on the same day, or the day following surgery.
Can smokers have dental implants?
Dentists strongly advise patients to quit smoking before undergoing a dental implant procedure. Smokers are at higher risk for dental implant failure.
What factors will determine the long-term success of my implants?
Many factors determine the long-term success of an implant. These include factors which are individual to the patient, such as their health as well as the density and quality of bone where the implant is to be placed. The better the quality of bone, the greater the chance of long-term success. Other determining factors are in the hands of the doctor doing the treatment, and the materials used. If the design or materials of the implant crowns or denture are poorly constructed, and biting forces are not balanced, even the best-placed implant will have a compromised survival rate. To ensure the best possible results, we use proven implant systems with years of clinical data supporting their success. The training of our doctors and their experience with implants and occlusion (your bite) are critical to ensuring the best possible outcome.
What might be some of the factors that would prevent me from being an implant candidate?
There are some medical factors that might prevent a person from being a good candidate for dental implants. Some of these may be uncontrolled diabetes, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, parathyroid disorders, blood disorders, rare bone disorders or bone marrow cancer. Some physical factors may include insufficient or poor quality bone, low sinuses or nerve bundles.
What is the maintenance like for dental implants?
Implants should be treated similar to real teeth because they are implanted into your real bone. Daily brushing and flossing is necessary to prevent bone and gum deterioration and disease. Just like your natural teeth, you will need your implants cleaned by a hygienist and examined by your dentist every three to six months.
